Als eerste natuurlijk het meest dierbare scheepje. Al lange tijd ons thuis.
Het is goed toeven onder de zonnetent, terwijl we voortdobberen op alleen de kluiver op de Estrecho de Rio, een zeestraatje tussen Lanzarote en Graciosa.
En onze de tender Margalliedje. Onmisbaar als we ankeren of naar de overkant of het strand willen.
Margalliti
Ofcourse we start with the most precious ship. This little beauty is already our home for a long time.
Comfortable cruising in the shade, whilst sailing only with the Yankee on the Estrecho de Rio (between Lanzarote and Graciosa).
And our tender Margalliedje. Absolutely neccessary while anchoring or if we want to go to the beach or to the other side of the river.

Optimistjes
Wat een verschil! De minuscule optimistjes en de enorme boeg van het cruiseschip in de haven van Madeira.
Cruiseschepen zijn overigens een alledaags gezicht op Madeira en de Canarische eilanden.
Optimists
What a big difference. The adorable little optimists and the enormous bow of the cruise-liner in the harbour of Madeira.
By the way, cruiseships are very common on Madeira and the Canary Islands.

Veerboten
Een imposant gezicht als de Fred Olsen de haven van Gomera indraait.
En ongelooflijk dat, samen met de Armas, er per dag 6 ferry's gaan van Tenerife naar Gomera en terug. En dat voor een eilandje met maar 18.000 inwoners.
De Armas zou ons overigens bijna overvaren op onze nachttocht van Lanzarote naar Gran Canaria. Met een verkeerd overschijnend LED toplicht waren we slecht te zien.

Ferries
Impressive to see how Fred Olsen manoeuvers into the harbour of Gomera.
And amazing that, together with Armas, they sail 6 times per day from Tenerife to Gomera and back. Especially for this little (but wonderful) island with not more then 18.000 inhabitants.
On our night-run from Lanzarote to Gran Canaria the Armas almost collided with us, due to an incorrect overlap of the LED toplight.

Wedstrijdjes
Dit gaan we niet winnen van SY Whonose - Royal Dan Ship 56 en SY Klef - Standfast 43S. Allebei te snel voor onze old lady.
Hoewel we wel de 2e plaats hebben gewonnen in de Gomera Ocean Regatta van 2010!
Ocean races
We are not going to win this from SY Whonose - Royal Dan Ship 56 and SY Klef - Standfast 43S. Both are too fast for our grand old lady.
Although we did come in second in the Gomera Ocean regatta 2010!

Oceaan roeister
Vanuit Portimao vertrekt Janice om solo naar de Carieb te roeien. Na 90 dagen en 5 uur arriveert ze op Barbados.
Ze droomt nu over de Stille Oceaan.
Ocean rowing
This lady leaves from Portimao to row on her own to the Caribe. After 90 days and 5 hours Janice arrives at Barbados.
Now she's dreaming of the Pacific ocean.

Silver Spray
Een favoriet van ons. Lange tijd gestationeerd in Rotterdam en in 2011 is ze voor een grote schilderbeurt in Portimao.

Loods
Ook bij slecht weer moet de loods aan boord klauteren. Hier op de veerboot van Portimao naar Tenerife.
En zelfs bij de dagelijkse ferry's tussen Tenerife en Gomera is het gebruik van de loods verplicht, terwijl daar de loods amper genoeg tijd heeft om naar de brug te rennen om op tijd het roer over te nemen.
Pilot
Even in bad weather the pilot comes on board. Here on the ferry from Portima to Tenerife.
And also the daily ferries between Tenerife and Gomera have to use a pilot when docking. Although over there, the pilot hardly has enough time to run up to the bridge in time to assist with the docking.

Schroot
Waar blijven ze toch, al die oude schepen?
We zien veel verlaten en vergane schepen. Deze roestbak (met op de achtergrond kunst-roest van Cesar Manrique) hebben we bij ons 2e bezoek aan Graciosa (CI) niet meer in de haveningang zien liggen.
Rust
Where do all the old ships go?
We see a lot of neglected and abandoned ships. This rusty one (with in the background "rusty art" by Cesar Manrique) isn't in the harbour entrance anymore when we visit Graciosa (CI) for the 2nd time.

SV Annika
Op de Annika houden we pomp-wacht. Elke twee uur de bilge-pomp aan om water uit het schip te pompen.
Provisorisch probeert de Noorse schipper het lek nog te dichten. Helaas zonder resultaat, want op weg naar de werf zinkt de Annika op volle zee.

On Annika we keep bilge-pump-watch. Every two hours the pumps have to be switched on to get rid of the leaking water.
The Norwegian skipper still tries to fix the problem, but unfortunately without result. On her way to the yard the Annika sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

Race bootjes
Een spinnaker test op de kleine race zeilbootjes in de marina van Portimao. Op uitnodiging komen 2 á 3 keer per jaar prof-zeilers deze bootjes varen. De rest van het jaar liggen ze (gesubsidieerd) te wachten.
Racers
A spinnaker check on the small racing sailing boats in the marina of Portima.
On invitation professional sailors come 2-3 times a year to sail these boats. The rest of the year they collect dust (heavily subsidized).

Een uitje op zich, deze watertaxi van de marina van Portimao naar de overkant van de rivier Arade.
